Genesis Case Study – Awakening beautiful possibilities

We partnered up with Create Bolton to enable a group of our Eve’s Space service users to get arty and creative. They each produced works of art that expressed the beauty within, and possibilities for a positive future. What they achieved was truly amazing and so inspiring. The work they produced was guided and supported by our mentors and arts practitioners. Each finished work of art was borne out of their own ideas – uniquely personal and thought provoking. The women worked well together as a team – supporting and encouraging one another.
The culmination was an exhibition at Bolton Library and at Café Create. The Mayor of Bolton attended the event and spoke of the pieces being of an amazingly high standard. Our CEO Dave Bagley also dropped in and was blown away: “The artwork is all so moving. Those involved have been finding who they really are behind the masks that we so often wear – the inner beauty, and how they want to be seen. They were quite humbled when people told them how extraordinary their artwork was”.
This exemplifies what our Genesis initiative is all about. Bringing people who have experienced past difficulties and traumas together – to immerse themselves in positive new activities, and to forge positive new friendships. Beautiful possibilities were awakened – and some of the women have been inspired to continue their journey with the creative arts.
One of the women accompanied her artwork with a brief explanation: “I have chosen the butterfly because they are perfect. Even if they are slightly damaged their beauty is still visible. I think others see our damage first and don’t look or want to see the beauty in me.”
“The butterfly to me is a symbol of freedom. I need to spread my wings and fly. We can all choose to fly in our own direction. I used batik for my artwork because it’s so different. I had no idea how it was going to turn out. Part of my work is from the backing paper of the batik – the part that would normally be put in the bin as rubbish. But I have reused it to make something beautiful out of something that’s usually discarded.”
