Bolton Lunches Impact Report

How it works

We have been running Bolton Lunches since 2014. It’s impact has grown year on year as we have welcomed on board new partners and distribution sites . We aim to ensure we reach all who have need of this lifeline. All the food which goes to make up the lunch packs is purchased fresh using money donated from a variety of sources. Typically, each individual pack contains a filled bread roll, a carton of fruit juice, a yoghurt, a cereal bar, a pack of mini cheese biscuits and a piece of fruit.

We are ever grateful to all who have so faithfully supported our project over the years – those that have made financial contributions, the many volunteers who have helped with preparation and distribution; and for organisations who have provided delivery vehicles and staff at no cost. These include Bolton Council, Bolton at Home, Seddon Construction, ‘U Drive’,‘Vensons’ the Asda Foundation, Warburtons, Home Bargains, and many local churches and individuals across Bolton.

Recent Developments

In 2021 we were privileged to join the HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) programme that provided exciting sessions across Bolton covering sports, games, creative sessions, physical activities and more. Many of the groups chose to receive a Bolton Lunch pack for their children and young people who were involved. These free sessions were brilliant for bringing communities together, providing educational and physical activities to children and young people and we were so pleased to be a part of this.

We also piloted a trial in Horwich where one of our main distribution sites became a local centre for making up the sandwiches and lunch packs. These were then dispatched to nearby sites for collection by children and families.

How you can help

As summer approaches each year, we start to firm up who will be working with us this time round.

Once we know our distribution sites from where the lunches can be collected, we will post the list here. Todo: link required here!

Each year, we advertise for volunteers to help with early morning (6.45am – 8.30am) sandwich making on social media. However you can also register your interest here: Volunteer with us

You can learn more about how to make a financial contribution to support the purchase of lunch pack items here.

Impact and outcomes

In the summer of 2022, working in partner-ship with churches, community groups, and businesses – together with an army of over 200 amazing volunteers – we produced and supplied 71,450 lunches over the school summer holiday (up from 66,690 in 2021). On average this amount-ed to 11,115 lunches per week (or 2,299 per day). The lunches were distributed from 24 local centres, 28 HAF sites and 10 other community activities.
